Asking for more work.

Lilah wrote her teacher to ask to be moved to the harder reading group. She totally did it of her own accord and here is the teacher's response:

"I loved her letter.  And... how could I say no to that???  I tried to call you this morning and tell you how much I love your daughter.  I am proud of her for asking for a bigger challenge, and what a great approach.  You make perfect children."

Lilah also was proofreading Isaac's acceptance letter and found a typo.  I thought that was hilarious!

Got her wheels taken away...

And no, I'm not talking about Hilary.

The nursing home called. Mom has a disregard for others and continually hits them with her electric wheel chair. They warned her about hitting the other residents with the chair.  She didn't listen.  So they called to ask/tell they were taking the chair away. I guess they expected my resistance. I said "Follow through is the key! You said you're going to take it away - do it."

They also wanted to know if I was bringing her cigarettes. I got a good laugh out of that one. No, not I. So she's also burning herself.  They told her she has to wear a smoking apron and go with an aide.  That lasted for 2 weeks but now she's smoking without the aide.  So they took her cigs.

Mom decried the punishments, "If you take my chair and my cigarettes. I'll have nothing left!"

When I heard this, I replied, "She's still got the big TV."

He's in!

Isaac is thrilled to be going to the school of his choice next year!  So far all of his friends who applied got in. He will miss his friends who applied elsewhere.  But the look on his face was priceless.

I was doing okay with the waiting until I saw how painful it was for him...

Good news, we don't have to sweat it anymore.

Things you don't want to hear while getting a haricut.

April was cutting my hair and Ada walked in, looked at me and said to April, "Don't make her look like (my bald) Daddy!"

Clara's Big Day!

Clara has been on constant tooth alert for a couple of weeks.  Last night she kept coming to say that the tooth was a bit more wiggly.  Then it was "bleeding" more. Today she told me it was very wiggly.  I suggested that she see Lori at school.  Lori is well known around the school for being able to get teeth out.  I hate teeth so it would have been very welcome. I just knew it would be today.

I was right, she came home holding the tooth - so excited. (Owen a bit sad she wasn't included!)

She looks so different with the slight gap in her teeth.  I'm sad, my baby is growing up.

Hi my vegetables!

I have to say that I'm super excited that we got into the local food co-op.  This summer we'll enjoy vegetables grown from about a mile away from our home.  We actually drive past the farm nearly everyday.  Now in the mornings, Ada enjoys screaming out the window, "Hi my vegetables!"  Today she told me it will help them grow if we're nice to them...

Overheard - Word of the Day

Owen and Clara were playing in the bath tub, acting out a "play."  They are talking about punishing someone when Clara says, "What's the word of the day?"  Owen cheerfully replies, "Beheaded!"

Tooth Removal Fail

So Owen has a slightly loose tooth.  It barely wiggles at all, but we can still hear of nothing but the tooth. So She was just sitting here talking about it when Isaac offered, "Go to Ms. Lori, she'll pull it for you."  (That's a nice woman in the school office.) Benjamin says, "Don't do what I did - put a crochet hook in your mouth..."

Ouch.

Going to Grandma's House

So the other day I said that I needed to go to Grandma's house to get the mail. Owen was in the car, as was Ada. Ada got very excited about seeing Grandma.  I said, "She's not there, Ada."

Owen says, "Don't you remember the funeral?  We sang a song and put the flowers on the bucket Grandmas was in..."

I corrected her, "Coffin."

Ada breaks down as we pull up into Grandma's parking lot, "I'll be good!  I won't be mean!  I want to see Grandma..."

Grandma doesn't live here anymore.

Seuss Party

We had our Seuss birthday party! Green eggs and pancakes (Green eggs and Ham), pink Yink ink drink (I've Got a Wocket in my Pocket), and blue goo (Fox in Socks). We had prizes for Seuss trivia. Favorite Seuss books...
