Clara has been sick recently.  One morning we woke up to find her laying on the bathroom floor. Poor baby!  Well I chatted with her for a minute and she said she wanted to continue to lay there so I left her.  Later I had one of the other kids go up to check on her.  They came down and informed us that Clara didn't want to get up because when she "stood up her back legs" hurt.

Well before long the whole kitchen was laughing because they couldn't figure out where her back legs were...

What Mommies Do

Ada asked to stay home today i told her that I had to work. She told me moms don't go to work.

Ada told me what moms do all day:

Take care of sick kids.
Play with babies.
Play with their friends.

Mathathon

Four of my kids have decided to participate in the Mathathon for St. Jude's Research Hospital. They are doing this in loving memory of their friend Will. He was a bright young boy, about Owen and Clara's age.  He would have been 6 this March, he spent much of his life at St. Jude's working hard on getting well. Unfortunately a cure wasn't found in time to save Will, he passed away in June 2006.  But there are other children who need our help.  If you have the ability, please consider a small donation to St. Jude's.  You can choose to do it through the Mathathon websites for anyone of our kids or St. Jude's sites.

After the winds storms my garage is blocked by the fence that blew down.  I miss it.

What Ada Said...

Last night Ada asked to sit on my lap.  She curled up, sucking her fingers and said, "I love you mama, but sometimes I'm mean."

Yes, Ada, sometimes you're mean, but I always love you too.

Staying Busy

I was driving home from a meeting tonight when I was overcome with sadness.  Then it occurred to me I'm using the busy days to mask how I'm feeling.  It's a coping technique and mostly effective except when the sadness seeps through.  I hate feeling sad but it's also a good pain, some how cathartic in and of itself. But I also have to get up and get everyone where they need to go.  How do I make that all happen?
